Mission

Our church has a number of links with local, national and international mission organisations.

BCM Birmingham City Mission is a group supporting the homeless in Birmingham. At specific times in the year our offering is given to their work and members support the missions Basics Bank by buying extra at the supermarket and passing it on.

BMS The Baptist Missionary Society is the international mission group of the Baptist Union of Great Britain. We annually commit to support their work financially and in prayer. We have some specific links with their work:

  • One of our own members, Judy Cook serves in Thailand working with local health programmes and children orphaned by AIDS.
  • We are linked with the McBain Family who are working in Albania, currently based in Tirana. They are supporting the growth of the young church in that country.
  • We have annually hosted and supported Action Teams in recent years. These are small groups of young people who are typically taking a gap year to support world mission. Our teams have worked in Italy, India, Brazil and, in 2005 when the Tsunami struck, Sri Lanka.
  • We are often joined by people who have come to recieve training at the Peter and Vicki Butchers , and their children, Thomas, Charis, Alex and Zoë, have worshipped with us before moving on to Ecuador in time for Christmas 2005.

HM Home Mission is the national mission group of the Baptist Church in Great Britain and Ireland. As with the BMS we support this work in prayer and financially.

Open Doors Open Doors is a mission group that seeks to take the good news about Jesus into countries traditionally closed to Christian teaching. At least once a year our offering is given to support this work. We have two members who take trips to support christians in societies that oppress chirstian faith. This is usually to take Bibles and christian teaching materials to worshippers already in contact with Open Doors.

Mercy Ships Only recently, one of our members, Sue Stevens took time off from her dental practice in Stourbridge to work in Liberia with Mercy Ships. She spent two weeks joining the regular work of the dentistry team, demonstrating practically, as well as teaching about, faith in Jesus Christ.
